The Bucket and Spades List

family-holidayRounding up our most kid-friendly holiday spots

Holidays are for relaxation, reflection, and rejuvenation. But let’s face it, when kids are in the picture it’s an entirely different ballgame. Choosing a holiday destination is a mammoth task as keeping the adults and kids happy can be a major challenge for the person in charge of making the booking. To help you help your clients book a top holiday that works for everyone in the family, we’ve rounded up three of our top kid-friendly destinations.

Winter wonderland

Leave the bikinis and board-shorts at home this December and trade the surfboards for snowboards in the French Alps! A holiday on the slopes is any teenager’s dream and Club Med’s Tignes Val Claret fits the bill.

Are your clients first-timer skiers? No stress: ski schools for all ages are available and resort guests are taught by seasoned pros. Kids are taken care of too with creative activities, games and treats on offer at a special kid’s ski class.

Keep in mind, if you plan to book your clients ski holiday during December make sure you suggest a resort that is higher in altitude. Sufficient snow to ski on has been coming later every year so the lower you are on the slope the more chance you’ll ski on slush instead of powder. March is also a magical time to ski; it’s sunny but slopes are just snowy enough to get in a good ride. It’s also cheaper and less busy.

Walk with Elephants

Who wouldn’t want to feed or interact with Asia’s largest land animal?  Elephant Hills in Thailand offers an award-winning elephant experience where you all sleep in Luxury Tented Jungle Camps! This guarantees fun for the whole family!

Combining African national parks with the tropical Thai forest creates the background for the most incredible holiday. Think Jungle Book meets Lions King.

Situated in Khao Sok National Park in Southern Thailand, the Elephant Camp has 35 luxurious, tailor-made tents and offers a floating Rainforest Camp, one of the world’s only luxury floating tented camps! They’re also only two hours drive from popular beaches Phuket, Khao Lak, Krabi and Koh Samui – a real winner.

Fun in the sun

Local beach holidays have always been firm favourites in December but why not take it up a notch and sell a Mauritian break to your client?

We couldn’t choose our favourite so we have three: Le Canonnier Beachcomber Resort & Spa Hotel is first on our list because of its incredible kids club. It’s housed in an ancient lighthouse built in stone with an old gun powder magazine outside. What better way for kids to indulge their creativity and get lost in their imaginations?

Second on our “buckets and spades” list is La Pirogue Resort & Spa, the island’s most authentic resort. Its architecture is inspired by old fishing boats and the cottages are built in local volcanic rock and crowned with wood and thatch. The resort is very family-friendly and offers a “kids club” where guests aged 2-11 can enjoy a round of mini-golf, tennis, windsurfing, swimming and, if they’re old enough, pony-riding.

Last but not least is Sugar Beach Resort & Spa. Tour the island aboard a glass-bottom boat or take part in water sports such as water and volley polo, snorkelling and kayaking. This ultra-active holiday will have kids raving about this adventure for years to come!

Cruising

This mode of travel is by far one of the most exciting and practical ways to see the highlights of a few countries in a short space of time. No need for hours wasted in the car, trying to find parking or in-transit boredom. Every cruise offers something different – from igloos and life-sized polar bears, Stone Age dinosaur play areas and endless options of sports and arts and crafts. We suggest your clients cruise with MSC. The kids clubs offer the infamous Lego Experience, hang outs with popular cartoon characters, mini golf, new releases watched on a 4D screen or even zip lining! It’s basically a dream come true for anyone – no matter what your age.

Fairy-tale for a day

Disney World, Orlando is probably first on most kids’ bucket lists so naturally it made ours too. Who wouldn’t want to be part of a real-life fairy-tale for a day or two and meet all the Disney favourites?

March the First Order, sing along with the cast of Frozen, meet Aladdin and Jasmin in Morocco or join Alice at a Mad Hatters tea party in Wonderland one day and enjoy extreme water rides and snorkelling adventures the next. This fantasy experience will leave any child or adult lost for words!
